Nomination window opens for ‘Supreme Heroes’ programme

The Supreme Ventures Foundation (SVF) has opened nominations for the return of its social enterprise programme, Supreme Heroes, which runs from June to October 2024.

Supreme Heroes is a capacity-building initiative that recognises and supports micro businesses that contribute to the social sustainability of their communities.

SVF director Heather Goldson expressed her enthusiasm for the programme’s return and the opportunity to welcome new participants.

“We are happy to be back once again with our Supreme Heroes programme which will stand to assist even more members of the different communities throughout the island. Since launching in 2019, we have been incredibly pleased with the participants and are immensely proud of what they accomplished. We are certainly looking forward to the nominations for this year and encourage the public to nominate those individuals making a real difference in their community,” Golden noted, sharing her excitement about the programme’s return.

The foundation says that the general public is invited to nominate small businesses and individuals making significant impacts in their communities with limited resources. It could be a tailor in rural St. Ann hosting back-to-school events or a teacher in western Jamaica providing adult literacy classes, SVF wants to hear about these community champions.

Nominations run from now through to July 26.

The project is facilitated by Changemakers Limited, which will conduct extensive background research to validate the nominees. Nominees will work closely with the Mona Entrepreneurial and Commercialisation Centre (MECC), which will provide the retooling training course for the selected heroes.

Speaking on a primary objective of the programme Goldson shared, “A key component of the Supreme Heroes programme is to strengthen business capacity while providing grant funding to elevate their social interventions.”

“Our partnerships with Changemakers, who validate the nominations received, and the Mona Entrepreneurial and Commercialisation Centre will enable us to offer training and coaching in essential business disciplines, including finance, marketing, and leadership is critical to the success of this programme,” she added.

At the programme’s conclusion, each participant will be registered as a business or a charitable organisation, if applicable. Participants will also gain a better understanding of basic business practices, and their community projects will expand their benefits to more beneficiaries in their communities.
